Sauer-Danfoss Reorganization

Sauer-Danfoss has been going to market in the same fashion for the past 10 years, an approach that has placed equal emphasis cross our entire product portfolio. This has allowed us to substantially grow our overall business, however, we believe that for some product lines this is not providing the market with the best level of service and support.

It has become clear that most of our products lend themselves to a system approach while some would be more successful in the market if we adopted a different way of doing business. The products that have been successful with a total system approach are those that are designed into the vehicle early in the design cycle. These products will remain as an integrated portfolio and continue to be supported with not only system application expertise but will have additional product expertise and focus available to help our customers.

In the later stages of vehicle design the product selection process is made in a significantly shorter time frame, necessitating even greater agility and speed from the supplier. To better align our approach with these market requirements we will separate two sectors of our product portfolio and make them ‘Stand-Alone’ business areas. Each of these businesses will have the focus and freedom to do what is needed to better match and exceed customers expectations. The three areas being reorganized are the Cartridge/HIC business, the Open Circuit Gear Pump and Motor business and the Inverters business.

A few details about these organizations:

    • As ‘Stand-Alones’ they will operate as smaller more agile entities.
    • The businesses will have their own sales force and support organizations
    • Each of these businesses will adopt a new name
o Cartridge/HIC will become Comatrol® – the name of the Cartridge/HIC company that was acquired in 2003
o Open Circuit Gear Pumps and Motors will become Turolla OpenCircuitGear™
o Inverters product line will become Schwarzmüller-Inverter™ – the name of the company that was acquired in 2002

While the organizations have been created the transitions for our customers to the new business model will require some period of time to allow us to make sure we have the support organization fully functional and ready to meet your needs prior to shifting the business away from the current order processing and support structure. Our target is to have Comatrol and Turolla fully functional by the end of 2010. Schwarzmüller-Inverter will be fully functional September 2010.

This type of structure is not new for Sauer-Danfoss. Hydro-Gear was moved to a “Stand-Alone” business unit in the Sauer-Sundstrand organization in 1991. They have been able to focus on matching their products and business operations to their customer needs. The results have been outstanding. They are the market leader in their segment and continue to evolve to bring more value to their customers.

We look forward to creating the same type of success by allowing Comatrol, Turolla and Schwarzmüller-Inverter to focus on the things that bring the most value to their customers.
